During one of my vacation leave (when I was still working in Singapore), I asked mom and Cha to take me to Jose Rizal’s house. It’s been a while since the last time I visited ( I was still in grade school). I hoped that the weather will cooperate. It somehow gave me a chance. Well, it’s better than nothing. I’m just glad I took the chance to come back. It felt wonderful.
- The look on the outside.
A few years ago, there was a controversy regarding the color of the house.
I just love this cool house opposite of JPR’s house. Mom says she knows who the owner is but they’re not close 😅.
I remember dropping some coins in this wishing well.
Is this Acacia or Narra? I bet this tree has seen a lot.
I dream of a bahay kubo in my backyard. I want that as a play area for my future kids. I also want a tree house.
2. Exhibits
The house is a museum in itself. There’s also an added complex at the back part of the compound to show other important items related to the Rizal family.
Mom knows how this “machine” works. My lolo (grandfather) was a farmer/policeman. The wooden club on top is what they use to grind the rice plant placed in a huge mortar to acquire the rice grain.
My favorite alamat (legend) from Laguna, Maria Makiling.
Tagalog version of Mi Ultimo Adios.
Handmade slippers. I bet Leonor Rivera and I could’ve spoken about lots of things regarding arts and craft.
3. Second floor of the house
4. Calamba Church
Beside the JPR house is St. John the Baptist Parish Church. A church right beside your property during 18th-19th century says a lot about a family’s social stature.
Jose was baptized in this church. It was prophesied during baptism that he was destined to greatness.
I live in Laguna and that is one of the great places to visit.. Thanks for spending time here.. Stay wonderful! 🙂
