It\’s a Grin Affair

I\’m a fan of shops, cafe or stores that are hindi pa ganong kasikat, just starting and has this very cozy and personal vibe. Everton Park is home to some of it. First off is Grin Affair.

I first noticed the promo board near the stairs towards our block. I thought that they are selling sa paglalako. It turns out it was directing the people to go over the shop. Quite misleading at first especially, I still have no sleep coming from my night shift. So I was left curious. the products are pretty enticing.
When I came back from one of my meetings for my wedding, I went down from my usual bus stop and was surpirsed to see the corkboard sign again. And its now directing to the place itself. So I went in, the vibe is very homey and eco-conscious. It feels like I came into my mom\’s kitchen and I await for my mom to finish the cooking. Earth tone colors dominates the place. There\’s also a little space for hand-made items for sale.
I met Jody, the shop\’s owner and pastry chef (I\’m not quite sure about her title aside from being the owner). And we had a little chit-chat. One concept of the store is to promote recycling thus the use of glass jars for her cakes. There\’s an attached chit on each of the jar, you can collect all 20 pieces of it then you can receive a freebie if you return all the jars!
Jody has been to Manila for 5 days for a short vacation. She has an interesting insight of it. She liked Intramuros and the old buildings. Meaning the uniqueness of Manila comes from its old world charm that sets us apart from other countries. She also like the idea of having food carts (like everywhere!) even on the LRT/MRT. She thinks it\’s one of the most profitable way for F&B. She hopes to come back one day and would like to explore our beaches.
Ok, back to the food. I ordered Banana something cake-y (sorry I forgot the name). The taste is delectable. Not too sweet and not too creamy. It melts in your mouth for quite a while so you can savor the flavor and ingredients. The banana fruit is still fresh, and it doesn\’t give a lamog flavor.
I haven\’t returned yet from the shop. Most of the time that I want to go there its closed. I still want to try the other cakes. I\’m looking forward to it.
XOXO

Nostalgic Tuesday: Of photography and Auntie Simple

From my sister\’s FB wall post:Our fat cat, Chiyo was scratching on the cabinet doors where old photo albums are kept. I decided to check one album and saw these photos of the 2 year old me with Auntie Simple. It\’s only now that I realized that what my relatives were saying about me is true: payatot daw ako noon. So bakit ngayon hindi na? LOL.
And I commented:Alam ko ito. Ito yung picture na ako ang kumuha. Oi wag ka eto
ata yung SLR na gift ni dad kay mom. Infernez, alam ako na ang
rule of thirds…hahaha tapos naalala ko pa kinagabihan pagbalik
ni mom sa trabaho…Sino gumamit ng kamera?! Si ninang sabay turo
sa akin hahahahaha laglagan kung laglagan hahahahha tapos sabi ni
mom grabe ang daming nasayang anim na kuha…
* This is the time back then that developing a film is not cost-effective
And now it looks like its only Ninang\’s memories are that\’s left
to us…

I\’m sorry if I couldn\’t be there to see you for the last time. You\’ve always been so proud of us. KC is right, you are our stage mother. You never fail to encourage us when we\’re down, make us laugh with your crazy antics and just be yourself. Life must go on as they say but all the happy memories that you left us will remain.

I know you\’re in a better place now. We\’ll miss you alot T_T

Music Monday: Without You

I\’ve heard of Aj Rafael because he\’s buddies with David Choi, though I\’m not really familiar with his songs. When Jen made our wedding video, I\’m not familiar with the song. I find it unique. Before I knew it, it\’s stuck in my head.
I remember known videographer Jason Magbanua once said, he makes videos that are timeless and worthwhile. Na kahit paulit-ulit mong panoorin ay kikiligin ka pa rin, matatawa or mangingiti ka. Jen, I think you hit the jackpot with this one. And I see a bright future ahead of you and Roy…Keep up 🙂

XOXO

Relationship Status: Married

The past two weeks has been pure happiness and bliss. I still can\’t get over. It may be short, but its the happiest event in our lives. We decided to make our wedding as a small, unique and an intimate affair. There are are some setbacks but we made it through. All in all, me and my husband are happy with the results.

Here\’s our marvelous wedding video:

Video and Photo by Jen Rivera.

Music Monday: Everything

I heard this the first time from my former multiply.com online buddy. It was one of her favorite song for her daughter. The song is very catchy with a hint of cuteness, gleeful sincerity and lightness. You just have to enjoy every rhythm and beats.

This is what I want for my wedding gleeful and light.
