Hate by Michael Pacquiao || Music Monday

This was supposed to be posted 2 weeks ago but I was busy LOL.

I don’t get the 90% hate that this young man received after performing his single. I mean, he delivered his goods well. I don’t see anything wrong. Ok fine, he may had a big head start from his parents name and fortune. But at least, he put it into good use, kesa naman mag adik-adik yan at maging salot ng lipunan. At least, he creates good music.

I read something about some musicians are not happy about him because of his “connections.” If I am going to put myself in their shoes, possibly maiinis din ako (this is for the other 10% of “understandable hate”) Because if I create music that is at par with his but I’m still struggling to get a record deal and properly distribute my song. The amount of work needed for me to achieve the above mentioned is 10,000 times greater as to the effort that Michael has. I may not get the hate but if I put myself in their situation, may pinanggagalingan naman e (This is for the legit musicians, but for the memamanahimik kayo dyan!). Unfair talaga ang life. Sana may umalma din sa tone-deaf “artist” that was heavily promoted way back 😏. Sana ginawa na lang comedy special, I’m sure pasok dun ang self-deprecating humor niya. Napansin din nila Paco Arespacochaga and Robin Nievera, timestamp 2:20.

So what can we do sa very complex na usaping ito. Support natin ang deserving artists and performers. Mahalaga talaga ang pulso ng masa. Kung dislike nyo naman, either do it in silence or debate intelligently about the topic. There is already a lot of hate going on, tapos di nyo lang bet ang kanta huhusgahan ang buong pagkatao nung singer.

Till next time

Hubby’s Musical Taste

I’m always left in awe with hubby’s musical taste. He grew up during the 80’s. That explains his fascination with new wave, rock and OPM.

One lazy Sunday afternoon, we were listening to the radio. Randy Santiago’s song played. He commended it as a good song. I otherwise decode it as “great and beautifully made.”

He has a question though, “Whatever happened to Keno?” I answered “Well, the last time I heard of him was in Parokya ni Edgar’s song YES YES Show.

A Lunch Date Reunion perhaps?!

Music Monday: PhilPop 2013

I\’ve only heard about this PhilPop 2013 when a friend from FB posted an LSS moment with the song
entitled \”Dati.\”

The First Philippine Popular Music Festival is a songwriting competition open to all amateur and professional composers who are Filipinos or of Filipino descent residing in the Philippines. The competition not only aims to celebrate the talent of Filipino songwriting, but to glorify the contributions of songwriters and composers to the Filipino music industry.  SOURCE

The song was beautifully done. Modern, hip and nostalgic. It\’s no wonder they won PhilPop 2013. Congatulations.

Another entry that I noticed was from Mr. Joey Ayala. Who would have thought he\’s still socially relevant into this day and age. During the 90\’s, I was able to hear his songs on FM radio and watched his MVs on MTV (if my memory serves me right). His sound is distinct because he uses Philippines indigenous musical instruments. A soothing voice that goes well with slow songs.
Trivia: I was able to see him in person when I was still a member of the Philippine Gong Orchestra. There\’s a collaboration with UP College of Music\’s Musika Asya and PGO  for a performance in Cuneta Astrodome (o diba performer ako dati LOL). He\’s a simple and cool dude.

I think music writing contests should be done more often. This started in the late 80\’s but then it was held erratically. It\’s an on-off thing. There\’s no consistency, so nothing to look forward to.Staging music festivals are very feasible in our country. Even if we do it twice to quarterly in a year its doable. Though it largely depends on the approach and concept of organizers.
I remember writing about OPM being dead. I\’m wrong. It\’s just obtunded. It severely needs a push, diversity, classification and airtime (in different mediums). At least something to make our kababayans aware what else OPM can offer.
XOXO

Music Monday: I Thought OPM Was Dead

I was wrong! And now I\’m an idiot…Read it here.

I was immersed too much from mainstream madness, I didn\’t know OPM is staring right back at me. I\’m hypercritical maybe because I don\’t see anything new. I haven\’t been watching MYX for a while and MTV Philippines vamoosed eons ago. And I don\’t listen to the radio anymore because I just stopped.
.
The article sums on what is really happening and how to keep OPM alive than ever.
