Tangled Ever After

My third most popular post is my Tangled movie review. I love this movie!

Tangled ever after is a short movie sequel. Watch what happens on the day of the wedding.

Max and Pascal are hilarious!

Baking Noob

Six months of domesticated life has engaged me to do things I\’ve either done before (almost forgotten) and never done at all. Baking was one of it.
Baking is HARD! It\’s an exact science. Every measurement of ALL the ingredients has to be accurate. One wrong measurement would take the recipe to another direction. My very first try at it was a huge FAIL! You can\’t recognize that it was a cookie.
I choose to persevere. I kept on practicing until all the flour and butter supply in the kitchen exhausted. Eventually, my hardwork paid off…

My Auntie Erly who\’s an experienced baker (based in Michigan), advised me to learn baking from scratch. Dependency on ready-to-bake items is a no-no. Well, what she said is true. Because seeing the result of hard work is very fulfilling. That\’s why some of my friends find baking as a stress reliever.

This was my second try for baking cookies. I tried tweaking the sugar content but it didn\’t do wonders.

It may look like a cookie now but it\’s like flattened muffins. Pfftt!!?!

Next 3rd and 4th try has already sealed the deal. I can manage baking cookies now! Woohoo! The 5th try though I tired to decrease sugar content again. Lesson learned: Look for low sugar recipe on Pinterest. Ask the experts for advise. As for my latest try  (I just had it the other night), I was able to reproduce the cookie that was called for in the recipe. Yipee!
Aside from cookies, I\’ve done leche flan using the oven (we have no steamer). I was happy to get the result that I want, a \”poreless,\” smooth and intact flan. I got the recipe from the youtube channel of Pinay Cooking Lessons.

I had Puto craving a few months ago. So I used a ready-to-make mixture but steam-baked in the oven.

Obviously, it was an easy one. Just enough to satisfy my craving.

For introduction to baking, tips, ingredients etc. I follow Lindsay Ann, winner of Food Network\’s Cupcake Wars. She has the best small batch recipes of cookies and cakes. If you\’re a beginner like me, it\’s best to whip up recipes in small batch. Just in case it\’s a fail, at least you don\’t waste a lot of ingredients. Joy of Baking has lots of recipes as well, from cakes to shortbreads. She has an extensive video archives of baking tutorials.
Can\’t wait to bake cupcakes. Yey!

The Red Lip Tutorial

This is my favorite Teen Vogue 3 Steps To…tutorial. You can\’t go wrong with a red lip. I\’ve been using red lipstick for the longest time. Turns out, there\’s a better way to do it.

I like the Bite Beauty Lip Scrub. It gently exfoliates and smells delicious! It\’s quite pricey though ($18.00). Available at Sephora.

For the lipstick, I used NYX Matte Lipstick \”Bloody Mary.\” It\’s highly pigmented, one swipe can give a full opaque color. I never thought matte lipstick would look good on me.

As for the concealer, I used NYX Wonder Pencil (Medium) to highlight and clean the lip line.

If I had known these beauty advise when I was younger, I would have avoided cringing while looking at old photos.

Veteran\’s Day

Late Post

I\’m proud of my husband…really! Serving 20 years in the Navy was no joke. It has influenced him many in ways. I feel elated every time someone tells him \”Thank you for serving our country\” (which makes me think does our Philippine soldiers get that?).

For Veteran\’s day certain establishments provides free food and services for veterans. Just be aware of the fine prints of the freebie. Waiting time was long in most of the restaurants. Prepare yourself for long queues and apologetic staff.

First stop, we went to On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina at Mission Valley.

I just love the overflowing nachos. It\’s freshly done and served while its hot.

Sitting back, while waiting for our orders.

For dinner, we are supposed to go at Hooter\’s but their place was packed. Waiting time starts from 1-2 hours. We opted for Applebee\’s in National City.

Applebee\’s was full just like Hooters. But, I have to say waiting time was faster and they have an efficient way of crowd-control.

Too bad, we missed California Pizza Kitchen and Krispy Kreme. We were free-food-hunting all day long and I love it. Till the next Veteran\’s Day.

Mixtapes

I\’ve done mixtapes because it came to a time that I can\’t afford buying albums anymore. I will either wait for my song in the radio or ask a friend who has the album of the artist (cassette/CD) to make a copy for me. Watch the video below.
I am forever thankful with the present technology for music but, cassette tapes are sentimental to me. Mom and dad (he works as a sailor) literally used cassette tapes as \”voicemail\” aside from snail mails, scheduled phone calls and telegrams. I was able to listen with one of it. I heard my four year old self saying hi and goodnight to dad (awwww moment). I remember saving up for Backstreet Boys cassette albums because we don\’t have a CD player  and CD\’s are expensive. Aaahhhh those were the days…
How about you? What were your experience with mixtapes or the cassette tape era?
