Mid-Week Round Up || November 7, 2018

I had a blast (as usual) on Halloween. By 7pm, I finished all my candies! Yey! I felt bad at some point because of my early cut-off. Next year, what I have in mind is to pack sets of candy in small bags and just hand it over to them. I gave the kids the liberty to choose.

Things To Do In Phuket

There are lots of activites to do in Phuket. It will highly depend on your interests. Here\’s what we had.

1. Participate in local festivities

We arrived during the Loi Krathong Festival. Too bad we were not able to witness the floating lanterns (darn!). Performances along the beach and Bangla road are available to entertain. Not to mention the colorful decorations all over town were beautiful. Take note: we didn\’t pay anything at all.

2. Thai Massage

I\’m a sucker for a good relaxing massage. There are lots of spa nearby the beach. Prices starts from 250 Baht. It also depends on what kind of massage that you will be having.
ph34
A complimentary foot scrub was done before starting.

3. Food Trip!

This was the shopping and food bazaar in Bangla road during Loi Krathong.

Reminds me of gulaman and buko pandan.

5. Night Clubs

Night life in Patong is ALIVE and WILD!
While roaming the streets, we chanced upon this bar in Bangla Road that hosted  the ship that my husband served before he retired.

6. Island Hopping

Two of the most popular island hopping destination is James Bond Island and Maya Bay (\”The Beach\”) . I opted for the latter, I\’m more of a Leo fan.
Little did I know, our boat won\’t be exactly docking in the island. And even if we do, Maya Bay is congested with boats and people.
ph52
Make sure when booking a day trip of island hopping, know the  exact details.
ph54
If you have your own snorkeling gear, bring it. Tours charge it per hour.

I have to admit, this place is beautiful. I could just imagine, it could have been more serene, peaceful and pristine pre-production of the movie.

7. Hammertime

I just made up the name. I saw this in one area of the mini bars in Patong. It\’s like you strike the nail hard, the deeper it goes through the wood, you win (?!) If anyone knows how this game goes, I stand corrected.

8. Pingpong Show

Curiosity killed the cat (I\’m the cat).
Just google search it. And if you do, these are the critters that came out of the V.

There are lots of activities to choose from, really! There\’s go-kart racing, ATV trekking, para-sailing, jet ski and speed boat rentals. If you want a tailor-made yet affordable suits and formal dresses that will be ready within 24 hours, they have it. My husband got his pants and shirt there.
Phuket is nice but, I didn\’t like it that much. It\’s tiring to go from one place to another. Much of the attractions and must-see places are far. Though I can still see myself coming back, because I want to see James Bond Island but I\’m not in a hurry. I suggest to those who wants to go, research a lot about the place and match it with the kind of vacation you want.
We all deserve relaxing vacations. Good Luck!

Christmas In My New Home

c64

I\’m in shock when I found out that Seff doesn\’t have ANY decors for Christmas! To think that my mother-in-law is staying with him made it more shocking. An I-don\’t-bother-to-put-up-any-decorations-because-I-will-be-putting-it-down-anyway-after-the-holidays attitude is unacceptable especially now that I\’m here.
I may be the \”boss\” but I don\’t want to pressure my husband into buying a Christmas Tree. I told him to save his money for next Christmas. I came up with a wreath out of old magazines and flyers from junk mail.
To emulate Christmas spirit from the outside, I decorated the plants with star origami using magazine pages. I got the patterns online. We added  lights to brighten up our place during night time. My nephew Joelo gave some of his fanboy comments and praised my efforts. Too bad I wasn\’t able to take pictures of it during the night time. Nothing too complicated since I did everything in a rush. All I want is to feel the Christmas spirit in our house.

It was my first time to celebrate Christmas morning time, not the strike of midnight thing. We have to adjust because Nanay have to sleep early and she\’s can\’t keep awake til midnight. Ate Marilou is still recovering from her surgery. Thus the brunch schedule. We kept the celebration simple.

I cooked turkey spaghetti and prepared the fruit salad con sago. Seff glazed and baked the  ham from Costco. Nanay cooked her steamed fish and vegetables. Jon and Kuya Joel brought some seafood pansit palabok and made-to-order puto.

Aside from the food, we are not to forget the opening of gifts!
c38

To make the day  interesting I came up with a make-shift photo booth!
c6
I used post-its, washi tape and some invisible tape for our backdrop. It\’s bitin horizontally because not everybody can fit without squeezing in. Good thing we have a big wall good enough for photo taking. It\’s also strategically adjacent to a window giving a natural light.

c37
The props that we used are those that we already have at home like the Santa Claus hats, flower necklaces, and party hats from the dollar store. I also did some mustache and glass cut-outs I got from the web.

I hope you had a nice Christmas celebration. To tell you frankly, nothing beats Christmas back in the Philippines. But I have to compensate and make it fun on my standards. It\’s not that bad and it\’ll be better year after year. I promise…

Nostalgic Tuesday: One Whole Year

http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=137818

I was checking my FB profile the other day when I saw the 2013: A Year in Review portion. Wow! I didn\’t expect 2013 to finish that quickly. I can\’t help but smile as I browsed the pictures and status updates. It was a great year. I may have left Singapore but a new life here in the United States is ready to unfold. Looking forward to 2014.
