Deepavali

Late post.
Before I start, I want to greet my Indian friends and colleagues a Happy Thaipusam Festival. I was Orchard Road today and saw a lot of people in Dhoby Gaut. This is the second time that I experienced Thaipusam Festival from inside bus 190. I just admire their faith. I think pain is nothing when you devote your life to God.

So off with my late post…Super late if I may add.
It was my  first to experience Deepavali. Ate Brenda, our host, welcomed us with open arms. She treated us like family that made it more awesome. According to Ate Brenda Deepavali / Diwali is the Festival of Lights.

Ate Brenda shared a lot of interesting facts about the Indian culture. It\’s declared as a Public Holiday (PH) in Singapore and India. Expect a congested Little India especially the Mustafa Centre. They buy lots of garments and accessories, food etc. a few weeks  before.

The food is simple. I like how the mutton curry was cooked. The meat was tender, making it easier to chew. Black pepper prawns and Spicy Chicken are all good. Pair it with bread and you\’ll be full in few minutes.

Booze!

We also did henna tatoo by Ate Brenda\’s niece. I forgot her name but, she\’s one creative gal.

Deepavali
Ate Brenda\’s brother-in-law. He\’s been to the Philippines a few times. He specifically remembers Mabini Street where he hangs out. Just to get hold of our cheap alcoholic bevs. I ask him to marry a Filipina. He\’s still looking…
Deepavali
He can sing Tagalog songs. His favorite Filipino singers are Gary V. and Renz Verano. He loves singing karaoke.

From Suntec to Bugis

I was finishing the filling up my first ever balikbayan box, I went to Suntec to scour RSH for Ipanema slippers (Note: Prices go as low as $5 for an Ipanema, especially on their last day of sale but I wasn\’t able to come. I\’m not even sure if they lowered it down to $5). Unfortuantely, my relatives\’ feet sizes are small from the available sizes (9 and 10). I stuck to the plan of going to Bugis if I come out empty handed. I  decided to walk since it was just a few meters away.
I\’m familiar with the place because my wedding venue is within the vicinity. I decided to stop by Subway for a quick bite. I was surprised that Subway is conjoined with a coffee shop. So far, its the biggest subway joint that I have ever been to.

The place inside is very spacious.
I\’m not adventurous to try coffee on that day. Though the siphoned coffee sounds interesting.  I\’m not sure if its connected to Oromo Coffee Company with a very good cause for making coffee.
My usual $5 dollar combo: Cold Cut Trio
Why the face bebeh?!
After my meal, off I go to Bugis passing through Hotel Intercontinental. I noticed there\’s a newly opened store (I think?!) that sells asymmetrical designed clothes (meaning: weird and unique looking but looks awesome when I wear it hehehe). I wasn\’t able to get the shop\’s exact name. All I see is the Japanese character in the hangers.

I will definitely go back and check out their while merchandise. They also sell accessories and handbags.
I go to Bugis Street for the chocolates. I buy them at this store behind Bugis Street beside the durian stand. The store is somewhat like Valu$ in Toa Payoh. The products are mostly cheap especially if you\’re going to compare it with Choc-Spot in Lucky Plaza. But be very careful to check the expiration date of the food. I haven\’t encountered anything expired. I have been buying my pasalubong there ever since.

As of this writing, my box is on it\’s way to PHL. I just hope and pray that nothing bad happens to it.

It All Started in Puerto Galera

When I was in nursing school, I attended our org meetings. We get to introduce ourselves and share your dream vacation place. Ate Carla mentioned she wants to go to El Nido, Palawan. She knows that, once she\’s been there, she could go anywhere.
For me, Puerto Galera was my baptism of fire, to every leisure travel that I went to. My first ever independent trip was in Pangasinan + Baguio with my sister (we broke the barriers of what-ifs and maybes). Puerto Galera was the flagship of independence. Wherein, I plan and just go!
This is my first ever trip to a beach where people my age \”ay pinagsawaan na ang lugar.\” As they say, it\’s never too late to try.

I\’m thankful for the advent of cheap airfares, travel bloggers, review sites and alternative transpos. I do most of my research from reviews and recommendations of friends.
BTW if you\’re going to Puerto Galera, White Beach, I recommend this place.

I met the manager at work. Her mom was being treated in the hospital that I worked for. She\’s nice enough to offer the place. I\’ve never stayed there but, my sister recommended it to some of her friends and they liked it. You can check out tripadvisor for reviews.

I\’ve been to a handful of  places now. I\’m making my mark one footprint at a time. Maybe this is why the world is huge. It\’s meant to be explored. I maybe late but, it\’s better late than never…
